The topic: FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES FOR THE LOW-EMISSIONS ECONOMY

DR ALAN FINKEL (Australia's former Chief Scientist)

Dr Finkel will describe his work in assisting the government to develop Australia’s low-emissions energy technology capabilities.

About Dr Finkel

Alan Finkel received a doctorate in Electrical Engineering in 1981 from Monash University, following his BE degree. His PhD work involved development of instrumentation to investigate the ‘electrical’ performance of the nervous system.  He was appointed a member of the Order of Australia in 2006.  He served as Monash University’s eighth chancellor for five years starting in 2008.

Dr  Finkel was Australia’s Chief Scientist for five years until December 2020. He served with distinction in this role advising the Government and Parliament on science and technology matters. He has a continuing role in Australia’s national energy policy. In 2017 he chaired the national electricity review and in 2019 he led the technical aspects of Australia’s national hydrogen strategy.

In 2020 Dr Finkel led the development of Australia’s inaugural low emissions technology roadmap and in 2021 he chaired the development of a major update to the low emissions technology roadmap.
